Okay, so when last we met we had been annoyed to find that TD was not impressed with what we had achieved within the fake Temple to Mistra. We had been given a map from Mher, before he betrayed us - the bastard. This is that map:
And so we begin...
A lot went on at the start of this session before we actually did anything. First off, Vera's left, meaning that the boat (catamaran thing) is ours! Woo hoo!
Car wants to XP farm, and wants to go back to the temple to kill a whole bunch of dudes. Except that by now the Purple Dragons have come and basically killed everyone. So instead we head to the outhouse of the temple, because he won't shut up about it. There's not a lot in it, beds with chests under each. But Car's feeling...shooty, so stacks them up, places a vial of Alchemist's Fire on top, then sends a magic missile at it. He gets a load of crap that wasn't worth wasting the alchemist's fire. Ah well.
We discuss what to do next, while Car worries about the boat. Considers how we determine that it'll stay safe without someone stealing it. Which leads on to a five minute discussion about how one would go about stealing a boat with a punt - "See a guy with a punt you think that's his boat!" and Mher becomes known as Cap'n Mappy Poos.
Finally, half an hour after we sat down to begin this adventure, we have a direction. We are heading to the cross on the map, where we find a muddy beach where prisoners have been dropped off (I should mention, the map is no way to scale), we therefore head along the dotted line towards the Unknown Shrine. After failing a Survival check, we get lost, but a successful one by Yelena allows us to smell the fire on the wind as we stand before a hill. As we crest the hill we can hear people, and at the top we see a white stone ruin with a dais in the centre. Near the dais we see a gnome and a human, sitting by a campfire.
Car shouts: Hullo the camp!
To which the gnome questions; Who's there?
Car: Just travelers, may we join your fire?
Round the fire we get to know them. The human is Cubert, the gnome Norry. We tell them we're simply exploring the area. They tell us we're going to pass the tomb, and we act all shocked as though we didn't know, the gnome tells us there are bandits there. They told us they were heading east, but the tomb is further east - they tell us they keep things there to trade. Car propositions them about using our boat as a business arrangement, but they decline, it seems that they trade within the black market and they fear getting caught at sea. Cora thinks they're big babies, what with her being a pirate and all.
That night Cora stays on watch...but falls asleep, so doesn't notice when our companions leave. Then we head to the tomb, which takes us 9 hours to reach (I said the map wasn't to scale).
As we approach a voice calls our for us to stop, and we see a small humanoid with feral eyes and seems confused about why we're there. Car offers food "Here boy!" as though to take it for a pet. But it only tells us to leave.
Car says: "Are you going to make me?"
[OOC: Becky: please don't say, you and what army. James: Yeah, I'm going to] *sigh*
And an arrow whizzes past us.
Initiative!
He sends another arrow and we enter the tomb. The walls, floor and ceiling are made of stone between which we can see compacted dirt. Before us is a rope bridge over a pit, after which the tomb opens up. There is a wall before us with a face on, that has arrow slits in.
Cora, quick off the bat, moves to stand before the pit, and shoot the head bad guy with her crossbow, dealing 11 damage, killing him dead. Suddenly, an arrow shoots out of the face's mouth dealing 12 damage to Cora. Car exclaims, "It's spitting arrows!"
Combat continues.
Car sends an alchemist's fire into one of the arrow holes, it deals 5 fire damage and sets our assailants on fire. Yelena slips on the rope bridge (yes she's a rogue, no she's not a very good one =P) due to a fumble on her balance check. Cora has two arrows in her thigh, but manages to destroy the enemy.
A tall figure glares at us, though we can see only his pallid white eyes. He comes at Core with a rapier, while Car pulls Yelena out of the hole. After a whole lot of combat between this Dark Walker and Cora, Car wanders up sends a magic missile his way, and kills him, claiming the kill as his own.
After collecting our loot, and finding where Norry and Cubert hid their stash, we place some bottles of wine on the rope bridge, to alert us to any intruders, and go to sleep so we can LEVEL UP!
After waking, we decide to head to the skull banner part of the map, by the Lost Refuge. As we walk - for many hours - eventually trees pop up as we walk over soft peat. There's lots of water - a swamp - from which 13 reptilian forms erupt that are covered in black scales. [We's gunna die!]
Six of them try to throw nets, but thankfully miss. And we roll Initiative!
[At this point the DM realises that the nets only have a 10 foot range - oops]
Cora gets shot by an arrow, but with a successful Fort save doesn't take any poison damage. Car is captured in a net and takes 7 damage...then 2. And Yelena is shot by a poisoned arrow, fails her Fort save, and is paralysed for 5 minutes.
Car throws Alchemist's Fire 5 feet, setting the adjacent lizards on fire. Cora, too, is netted, tries to escape, but fails. Car is now down - unconscious [Fuckers have left me - Becky]. Then Cora is paralysed, and we're all down. A swampy haze moves in, geysers explode, and the lizards take us to their home.
One of the lizard folk step our way and casts a spell on us to cure our wounds. He is Kessessek, Cheiftan of the Sharptooth Tribe. They thought we were like the other 'dream walkers', and casts a zone of truth upon us. He tells us about the other tribe, the Shadowscales, who are ruled by a dragon. They appear to work in tandem with the 'hairy ones', and asks us to help him free those of their kind in the keep.
When suddenly, grey tentacles reach out from the sky towards Kessessek. Seven shadowy lizard folk emerge through the fog. The Grell equates to a Tentacruel, but floating/flying, and does many damage with its 10 tentacles. It paralyses Kessessek.
Initiative!
Car almost kills the Grell and starts to run away. Yelena shoots poison arrow. Cora shoots him and he spirals out of the sky like a burst balloon. The undead advance. Cora kills on of them, as Yelena is rendered unconscious. Car kills another, and another, then casts Daze, but it has no effect. Suddenly, the geyser erupts! Two enemies are seared by the eruption. Car is down...again, leaving Cora alone...again.
She uses a cure moderate wounds on Yelena, and then there's only one left!Cure moderate wounds on Car, and he whacks the last one with the Quarterstaff...misses, and is rendered prone...again.Cora kills the last one.
Kessessek is grateful for the help and gives us a wand of Cure Light Wounds with 37 charges.
We decide it's time for a nap. There is more going on than meets the eye, but that is adventure for another day.
